An event held on the premises of Brigade Gateway in Malleshwaram Assembly Constituency on Thursday saw the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman appeal to the Congress party to take pride in the country’s development. “Nobody can forget Jawaharlal Nehru, but can we take this country forward, please,” she quipped.

“Nobody denies anybody’s role. PM Modi is able to deliver in a shorter period. If you talk hard politics, don’t sound like a victim,” she said and asked the Congress party if it does not want to be aligned with the current development irrespective of the political dispensation.

Interacting with the audience, she said that the New Education Policy has given a lot of room for financial literacy right from the school level. “Many banks have their own programmes online available for anyone to complete at their convenience,” she said.

A participant asked the Finance Minister if a revamp in the existing system of reservation can be expected. The minister unequivocally denied by saying ‘no’ before quickly moving to the next question.

Responding to a query on the government’s intiatives for the IT sector she said that at a time when the government was nowhere in the information technology industry, the private sector had moved along well. “We will continuously facilitate the industry to move forward,” she added.

The event was organised by Malleshwaram MLA and Karnataka’s Minister for Higher Education C N Ashwath Narayan. The Finance Minister stated that Karnataka is contributing a lot to the country's economy and the state's contribution will be very important for futuristic India. "In such a situation, political instability in the state is not desirable. Having the same government at the Centre and in the state has a lot of benefits as for as the development is connected," she opined.

India has missed opportunities in the past and that should not happen again. Keeping this in mind, Prime Minister Modi has set a goal that India should become a developed country by 2047, she added.

"The BJP is always ready to implement programmes that will benefit the constituency, Bengaluru city and the state. As a party we aim to ensure that Karnataka contributes more to the progress of the country," Ashwath Narayan said addressing the gathering consisting of the residents of the apartment complex near Malleshwaram West.
