The new comprehensive map depicts both the old wards and the delimited ward boundaries. The old wards are shown using colours and the new ones with boundary lines. Upon clicking on a particular ward, the old boundary, new boundary and details such as ward number, Assembly Constituency, population and a separate ward map are available. There is also a search bar using which users can search a particular ward by its locality, Assembly Constituency or the ward number. Find the Map here: http://bbmpdelimitation2023.com/
Following the notification and publication of maps, the BBMP has invited objections regarding the delimitation. Once the ward boundaries have been finalised, the list of reserved wards for various categories is expected to be released.
The total number of wards now stands at 225. Under the previous (BJP) government, the BBMP had undertaken the delimitation exercise and marked a total of 243 wards out of the 198 wards that existed before. Several objections were raised by various political and civic groups on the “unscientific” revision of ward boundaries. The resultant change in the distribution of demographic groups among the new wards was also flagged as being politically motivated. Objections were also raised regarding the formula implemented for reservation of wards for caste and gender categories – especially for wards within each assembly constituency.
This could be the final draft of ward delimitation before the much-awaited polls for Bengaluru’s municipal corporation. Election for the BBMP’s council was supposed to be held in 2020, but was put off since then citing various reasons (including the COVID-19 pandemic). The city is being governed for almost three years now in the absence of an elected council of ‘corporators’.
